About Dogtown Editing

Dogtown Editing is a freelance editing studio for writers who want strong stories, clear prose, and support that strengthens their work without changing their voice.

I’m Cailey, a professionally trained editor, a member of the Northwest Editors Guild, and a graduate of the University of Washington Editing Certificate Program. I help fiction and nonfiction writers refine their manuscripts through a collaborative approach that protects voice while improving clarity, structure, pacing, and readability. Whether you are querying, self-publishing, or preparing for beta readers, I meet your draft where it is and help you move it toward publication.

Genres I Work With
I edit genre fiction and narrative nonfiction with a focus on:

  • Mystery, thriller, and suspense

  • Romance and women’s fiction

  • Creative nonfiction, memoir, and family history

I also welcome select projects outside these areas. For manuscripts explicitly outside of my wheelhouse, I provide referrals to trusted editors.

Services

  • Developmental Editing: structure, pacing, character arcs, and narrative clarity

  • Copyediting: sentence-level refinement that preserves voice

  • Proofreading: final accuracy and consistency

  • Conscious Language Review: writing that communicates with clarity and intention

A more detailed description of each service, along with deliverables, is available on the Services page.
